MOCKTAIL HOUR - Non-alcoholic drinks for the festive season
It is well known that anyone looking to conceive or who is pregnant should stop drinking alcohol. Alcohol can impact the development of a growing baby and increases the risks of miscarriage. For those breastfeeding, the rules of no-alcohols still apply. It can be particularly difficult at this time of year to get into the festive spirit when there are no spirits allowed! That is where Lyres comes to the rescue with a lovely range of non-alcoholic beverages to get you in the party mood.
Whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding or you are simply looking for an alternative to alcoholic beverages over the festive season, these great recipes for making your own mocktails are a winner. Easy to make non-alcoholic alternatives that are fun and festive, but safe for mums to be and breastfeeding mums, not to mention mums of little ones who can’t afford the effects of a hangover with little ones running around.
Here are three super mocktail recipes to get you into the festive mood.
- Pink London G&T
A non-alcoholic version of the Pink G&T which was first designed using Angustora bitters to give gin its pink hue. Our non- alcoholic Pink London is a crafted gin alternative in beautiful pink making it not only a delicious tasting but also a gorgeous looking drink.
To make your Pink London G&T you will need:
INGREDIENTS
- 60mL Lyre's Pink London Spirit
- 120mL premium bottled mediterranean tonic
- 1 cucumber slice
- 4 strawberry slices
- Garnish: Rosemary Sprig
Mix your ingredients into a highball glass with lots of ice, stir well to mix and add a sprig of rosemary to garnish.
This summer sipper with a twist will keep you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Pink London Spirit is perfectly paired with cucumber, strawberry, rosemary, and light tonic. This refreshing highball is the perfect serve for the festive season.
- Pink London Cosmopolitan
The Cosmopolitan or Cosmo as it is often referred to was very popular in the eighties where adding a splash of cranberry juice to a ‘Kamikaze’ transformed it into a ‘cosmopolitan’. This party drink legend is back and better than ever made with alcohol free Pink London Spirit parties and Lyre’s Orange Sec to offer sweet citrus notes with fresh strawberry and cranberry. Feel free to grab your squad and hit the town with the drink that never sleeps.
To make your Cosmo, you will need:
INGREDIENTS
- 45mL Lyre's Pink London Spirit
- 15mL Lyre's Orange Sec
- 15mL lime juice
- 30mL cranberry juice
- 7.5mL premium strawberry syrup
- lemon twist (place inside shaker - optional)
- Garnish - orange zest
Pop all your ingredients into a shaker with ice, give it a hard shake and then strain through a fine strain into a coupette glass. Garnish with a little orange zest and you have a stylish little party drink to enjoy.
- Amaretti Sour
The Amaretti Sour is believed to have been invented in the States in the 1970’s. Designed to make the traditional Italian spirit a little sweeter and more palatable for the American market however nobody can be entirely sure. It became very popular for its blend of sweet and sour flavours and slightly frothy top, always with a cherry included.
Our non-alcoholic version is a hit with those looking for something with a little sweetness and a little tang to it. With it’s slightly egg white and almond flavour to it, it is quite original. To make this you will need:
INGREDIENTS
- 75mL Lyre's Amaretti
- 15mL lemon juice
- 5mL White Sugar Syrup (1:1)
- 10mL egg white (vegan egg free alternative - replace with chickpea juice)
- 3 dashes aromatic bitters
- Lemon Wedge & Maraschino cherry to garnish
Pour all your ingredients into a shaker and shake rapidly and vigorously to make it nice and frothy. Fill an old fashioned short glass with ice, strain your cocktail into your glass and garnish with a lemon wedge and cherry.
That is three of our favourite mocktails to help you feel a little festive over the party season. Fun to make and delicious to drink, they will look so good, you will find plenty of party-goers eager to try your non-alcoholic drink. If mocktails are not your thing, Lyres also makes an alcohol free bubbly which is perfect for celebrating. Light in colour with notes of fresh peach and granny smith apples, it is an appealing celebration in a bottle that mimics Italian Prosecco. With all of this on offer, there is no excuse for not getting into the party mood this year.
Enjoy your celebrations! Cheers!
